Default Quicktime 7/Pro question

Hi all, great resource here!

I have shot a lot of family vids on a VPC - CG 100, and they look great. Viewing and editing on mac (finally realized QT 7/Pro is different program than Quicktime X.....!). Spliced movies/vids look great but obviously come out as .mov files.

Looking for any advice on the settings for exporting so the videos can be viewed across the network. Tried exporting from QT7 to .mp4 which resulted in pixelated and unacceptable quality. Not looking for HD or even 720p (although that would be nice). I thought perhaps I need to go to 60 fps, or toggle some other settings.

Can someone give me advice on settings for export and the preferred file formats for viewing on a network, eventually Apple TV, AirVideo, Vimeo, etc? Would Toast help with something like this? Should I abandon QT altogther? I read that iMovie can't accept Xacti files....

I do have the computing power and video card to make it happen, just need a little direction. Sorry if it's posted elsewhere.

Thanks a lot!
