But then they say the following:

"The name of Sanyo, however, will be maintained for some of the firmís competitive products and areas where the Sanyo brand is still popular, they said."

It sounds like they are still going to keep the brand name itself for certain products but it won't survive as a separate subsidiary. So it's still possible they may keep the Sanyo branded line of Pistol Grip camcorders.

Sanyo has lost its edge in the general consumer electronics marketplace due to strong competition from the Koreans (Samsung, LG). However, Sanyo camcorders are sure to live on, because they are Sanyo's top-selling product line, and none of the pistol-grip models are in direct competition with Panasonic's traditionally-shaped camcorders.

But maybe not.

Remember "Ulead" software?

That brand was taken over first by InterVideo of "WinDVD" fame.

Then the InterVideo/Ulead combined company was finally taken over by Corel.

The Ulead brand has all but disappeared.

Sometimes, corporation managements only need a year or two to get rid of the old brand.

DVD software is rather different because most of it comes bundled with either a new computer or an add-on DVD drive. Therefore the biggest sales target for the company is not the consumer, but rather to get contracts with the PC hardware manfacturers.

But with consumer electronics, it is actually advantageous for one company to own multiple brands, because many people are either brand loyalists or will specifically avoid a certain brand because of a past negative experience with them. So if someone bought a Panasonic camcorder in the past and didn't like it or it broke on them, they probably wouldn't want to buy another Panasonic -- but they would consider a Sanyo, even if it was actually made by Matsushita (which most people don't know is Panasonic's parent company in Japan).

I do not care that much about brand names .

Olympus did the famous Ultra zoom C-2100 , and then I become funboy to it :D

The Sanyo HD1010 , its another small miracle , but the Sanyo support team in Europe , its a chaos ..

If any such transition , aims to organize best, the services offered to the end-user,
like " after sales " service & software support, are all welcome ..
