VPC-FH1 - Recording with display off

While recording, when I close the screen, the camera powers off. Is there anyway to record with the display closed in or just turned off? Trying to figure out ways to increase the battery time.

I close the view panel facing outward and use a LCD Screen Protector.

Nice. That will help somewhat.
Thanks

This will not increase battery time.
There is a simple reason why the LCD must be ON for the camera to record: there is no viefinder.
The only 'viewfinder' and way to monitor what's being recorded is the LCD, so that must be open and ON for the camera to record.

its a shame as it used to work on previous xacti models, dont know why they changed it.

I got a Canon HF s100 now, and it seems to work with display off ^_^. Now to just test what will be batter life with display on and with it off.

I turn the viewing display outward and the power save feature activates. So I can record without having to open the viewfinder each time. It requires two clicks of the video record button. The first brings the camera out of sleep mode and the second activates recording.
This is useful to me because I often keep the camera in a small waterproof bag while adventuring recording and I can't have the viewing panel open while recording. It also allows me to mount the camera to a helmet cam.
