Yeah, it is fairly useless at a distance greater than 10 feet. Good for close ups and thats about it. It might get you that important shot that you would otherwise miss but its not worth the money as you say a torch would be almost as good.

I built a similar device for under £10 in the UK, I doubt it looks as good but it seems to do the same thing and has a similar range.
I got one of these from a pound shop and of these from maplins.

I realise that this might be overkill but has anyone tried any of these:






I might try the Sony simply because I LOVE those batteries. The Sima units have to be brighter than the Camerabright units.
