I'm in Japan for a short while and I was looking at the CG6. It looks like the menus are Japanese only? I foundthe"ABC" icon in the menu system but it didn't look like there were any options besides one. (If this is the case it's strange to have a menu option that won't let you choose anything.) I know it's not going to be released in North America, but is there an English-language version of this camera (for Europe maybe)? I could get by without an English manual but I would really like at least English menus since I can't read Japanese at all.

Trevmar posted a message by Hirosan earlier that confirms this:
Quote:
"(Unlike any other Sanyo cameras, Japanese is the only option that shows in Language menu)"

I'm quite sure you were holding a DMX CG6, that is the japanese model. In Europe and the rest of the world it's called VPC CG6. I ordered one last week, but it's stuck incustoms for now so I can't check for sure. Should have it next week.

Chrall: Thank you, that answers my question. The camera shop I was in had import versions but no CG6... only the C6, so I wasn't sure.

It's for Europe and the rest of the world... EXCEPT North America apparently. Does anyone know why exactly?

I have a VPC-CG6, buy from Ebay (ship from Hong Kong).
It has multiple language UI (inc English).
The document is in English too.

Like Sony Cyber-shots, certain flashy models that becomes available in Japan first followed by the rest of the worldwide market only has Japanese language option to discourage brokers and importers from overseas.
I think most Japanese camera manufacturars follow the rule now, unless the model becomes available worldwidely.

After all, I would expect the language support in future firmware releases...
