I realize that go get full advantage of HD video, it must be shown on an HD TV. However, I'm wondering if it's ANY better than standard 640x480 on a standard TV or DVD.

Not unless you like losing part of the top and bottom of your screen to letterbox black bars. The HD video is recorded in 16:9 aspect ratio so if played back on a 4:3 standard TV you will see the black bars above and below the picture area. But no, the video quality won't look any better on a SD television.

Thanks, Steve!

I still think I'll get the Canon TX1 and just use it for standard 640x480 videos and stills. It really looks like a breakthrough camera to me. I'm anxious to see your review.
