Some ideas that an firmware update could add (though trans-coding depends on the chips the camera uses). Maybe "Sanyo" here could help with this (apart from reading my analyst post linked above).

Have the camera so it plays back from connected external hard drive or DVD/Blu-ray/HD-DVD. More extensive on camera editing functions that works with an connected TV, an editor could be run from an card or disk, if there is not enough flash space in the cameras firmware.

Finale Trans-coder into DVD/Blu-ray/HD-DVD formats. Also DIVX/WMP, as there are cheap DVD players that support these formats in HD (to by for grandmother). Once edited, this can be burned to an external optical drive caddy. If it cannot trans-code at full speed that is OK, just do once it is edited, leave an disk in, walk away and come back once it has trans-coded and burned.

More importantly, today is the 5th...

Does anyone know of a retailer that has this in stock and is shipping?

Hi guys, any idea how can you get those HighDef movie from HD1000 card to DVD disk so you can send it for your Grandma to watch:-) ? So far I am only reading about storing files on External Hard Drive, but very few people even have those. I can imagine the way HD1000 owner could upload the file to PC, use some soft (what would it be?) to convert that file to DVD format ( would I lose the whole HD aspect of it, unless I convert to HD DVD or BlueRay?) and finally one would burn the DVD to share movie with other people or to store the file. AM I completely confused here?
All they talked on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10CMj0FvIsc - is the external storage, no word about how to burn those HDfiles to DVDs to share with others... I think this is a major flow with that camera - no one else can watch whatever you filmed...
Well no. Essentially the same problem with a DV tape. If you want to transfer it to a DVD format you'll need to run it through a computer software (or in rare cases, hardware specifically created for creating dvd without a computer). Xacti has come with Adobe premere elements in the past and i think the HD1000 comes with some similar software that handles HD formats. These editing software are really straight forward to use and you can easily create dvd discs so you can share with your family members.

If you want to maintain the HD format, the easiest is to use the hard drive play feature it has, since bluray and HDdvd players are far and few between as of yet and their discs are really really pricey. You can always transfer them at a later date when your friends and family have HDtv and HD disc players.

A high resolution music video filmed with the new Sanyo HD-1000 can be seen at: http://www.sanyohd1000.com/ This is the same video that's on YouTube but with high resolution quality.

1100 CDN MSRP is crazy! Exchange rate of Canadian Dollar has rasied a lot! 799 MSRP is more reasonable!
