Well it is a metter of opinion, I know all about optimizing settings for low light, I've spend quite a bit of time toying with the settingsand there are more options on the HD1000 for sure but under the same conditions and settings I find the CG65 slightly better at gaining focus quicker. I am not expecing miracles, I know the limitiations on the xacti models, I had many of them and a mini dv (which is slightly better at low light, sony hc96) but anyway the full hd wins hands down so I'll be using my HD1000 from now on.

As an aside, I'd highly recommend the gorillapod for the xacti cameras, I got one a week ago and its a great little tripod. Check it out. You can get them on ebay pretty cheap.

Another quick tip for those with an XBOX360, there is an update that allows you to play H264 files which means that the HD1000 files can be played via an external HDD or thumb drive.

I tested it an it works great.

Yes, it's called the Spring 2007 update. You can even connect the camera directly to the XBox via USB, it works that way. I've done this with the CG65 using an ordinary USB cable and it worked well. The HD700/1000 only haveUSB on the docking station. And if you have the docking station, it would be best to use component or HDMI out anyhow since you can see icons and do a proper slideshow since the XBox can't (no icons and no video slideshow, only photo slideshow).

Very happy with HD1000 so far. The portability and the cost win over Sony CX7 in my mind.
i would go with HD1000....This forum is very helpful.. so many ppl are there to answer questions on HD1000.

Hd1000 is a great cam as long as you know its limits.

Did some testing with 60fps and 30fps on 640x480 on the HD1000 and CG65 and the difference is amazing. The 60fps motion is so fluid, its beautiful! Looking back at all my 30fps CG65 footage is a real eye opener. I'll be shooting in 60fps mode from now on.

As I mentioned earlier about the xbox360 now playing H264 clips, it does BUT it will only play 1920x1080 vid at 30fps even though its recorded at 60fps. Have to say also that the quality is much better when played through the docking station and this also has advantages as Caelum pointed out.
