On the Xacti HD1, HD2 and upcoming 1000, Does the LCD screen have to be flipped open to take video or pictures? Is it a requirement to turn the device on or something?

I'd prefer to have the option of using it without using the LCD, or at least not having to flip it out to the side

I can only say about the cg65 and the hd2 both need to be opened, but you can have them opened flat to the handle but with the lcd facing outwards.

Oh OK, flat to the handle would be alright. Still would be nice to have the option to turn off the LCD and save the battery.

Sorry I misinformed you, you can with the cg65 at least close the screen and carry on recording. I'll ask someone at work about the HD2.

:-)herbs, I also assumed it wouldn't work. I just tried it and the CG65 doescontinue recordingwhen the LCD is completely closed. The C6 would automatically go in sleep mode when the LCD was closed, even while recording,so I assumed the CG65 was the same. Thanks for checking, might come in handy when tripodded as it must save power (LCD does turn off), but not great for framing a shot. :-)

OK the HD2 shuts down when you close the screen when it is recording so it's different to the cg65.
