Hmm. I shoot stills with my HD700 all the time, I like it. Had to get used to the reframing when you go into still mode but works fine for me. Like anything else, depends or the conditions and what you're looking for.

I've noticed when I shoot video towards bright light (like the sun) I get something that looks like a small white diamond in my playback. It does not appear in my still shots. I've tried cleaning the lens but it hasn't helped. Anyone else having this distortion?

totally normal, happs in video and in still shots

"they call it a smear. you'll get the most smear, in purple, and a regular smear in a crystal color. I have and notice this more on CCD lenses over Cmos lenses.

"I have a video of my drive to work with the SUN infront, and in the room looking out.

"I will also show this with a CMos lens as well showing thatCMOS vs CCD.

"I cannot place uptill at my personal PC thanks

Yes, normal.
Reflections of the lens, (too much light on the ccd sensor causes also laser-sword effects).
both effects in my clip at pos. 0.58 min.

Thanks fishycomics, what do you mean exactly by a picture every 30 seconds?

If anyone is interested I found a place to download the manual online as a PDF, just requires a free registration:

In HD-Mode the HD700 shoots with 30 frames per second (720/30p).
