I took the plunge the other day and bought a Vista Home premium laptop. I have read the advice here and installed ffdshow,Haali media splitter and the patch for Vista. The h.264 videos play beautifully but I am having problems with my old xacti footage from my C4. When I try to play the video it only shows a portion of the film and the quality is awful.... I don't know what I've done wrong! Can anyone help me?

Many thanks for any advice.

Hi sunnycharlie,I've tried playing C4 videos and they play fineusing ffdshow. I'm guessing you might have other codecs installed on your PC that are overriding or conflicting with the ffdshow ones, or ffdshow is not configured properly. Check ffdshow's video decoder configuration to make sure that MP4V (and MP42) are set to libavcodec.

If only Haali media splitter and ffdshow are installed, then it should work fine. If you installed other codecs/codec packs before or after, then that might be your problem; try uninstalling other codecs/codec packs.

Thanks for your reply. I have checked what you said and it is set up correctly.
The laptop is brand new and I have installed nothing but the software I mentioned...
My desktop is doing the same thing. Quicktime plays the video with no problems and they also play fine in wmp if I convert to.avi.
I hate computers!!!
Any more suggestions?
