Hi everyone,

After reading all the great information here, I settled on an HD700 a little while ago, and I love it for the most part. However, there is a strange audio problem that I can't pin down, and I'm wondering if I got a defective unit.

Every fifth video or so, there's an incredible amount of audio static that lasts the whole shot. Sounds like an old TV tuned to a nonexistent channel. It's happened both indoors and outdoors, and is loud enough to almost completely drown out voices. I can't figure out a pattern to it, and the camera works great 80% of the time.

Anyway, has anyone had the same experience? Is this just typical of internal mics (maybe the camera is doing a bad job of adjusting the sensitivity)?

Thanks!

I don't remember having seen this issue with my hd700, it sounds like a problem with your camera.

The mics on the HD700 (and HD1000) have always performed above my expectations. Sounds like you have a faulty unit.

I'm glad I asked! Amazon should be sending me a new one shortly.

Thanks a bunch, guys.

EDIT: I should add that Amazon has handled this unbelievably well--within a few minutes of requesting the replacement, they've prepared it to be shipped and it should be delivered tomorrow. Makes me glad I gave up on bargain-hunting and just ordered the camera from them.
