I have just purchased a new Sanyo Xacti HD1000. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions about an external mic that will work with it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Do you know if the mics need to have their own power, or if they can get their power from the Camcorder? It sounds like some devices need mics that supply their own electical power, but I can't tell if that's true with the HD1000 or not.

I think most external mics will need their own power as the HD1000 does not power mics. Small mics with a high sensitivity will probably work fine without power, but something like a Rode shotgun mic will need power. A number of them use standard batteries to provide their own power source.

I used a Rode Stereo Video Microphone when I had my HD1000. It worked very well (as it does with most camcorders). Of course, it looks huge and weighs more than the HD1000, but what the heck

The dead cat fur hangs in front of the HD1000 lens, and has to be held back with an elastic band...

What microphones are others using? Please post them here if you recommend them.

I've had some problems with microphones that only record at a low volume with my HD1000. Has anyone else had the same issue? If not, what external mic are you using?

The HD1000 provides "plug in power" for mics. So any mic that can run on plug in power will work fine as far as powering goes. If it requires more, then the mic will have to be externally powered.
