Basically.

Bought a Sanyo Xacti DMX-1000 just yesterday in Osaka, Japan.

Now though I love it nothing is in English and all of it is in Japanese only.

So I was wondering, has anybody used the VPC-hd1000 firmware from europe or USA etc on the DMX-hd1000????

Any issues or problems or faults???

Is it safe to do so?

I reallllllly would like the English option but unfortunately the firmware on the DMX-hd1000's do not have any other option that Japanese as these are specifically allocated to Japan.

hmmm:?

I used the english firmware downloadable from

http://www.sanyo-dsc.com/english/support/index.html

however it still didnt work.

The firmware on the DMX-hd1000 is 1.1 anyways and even though it seemed to be updating etc Once I turned it off it was still only japanese and the only language option is still japanese.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!

Anybody???

Is there an EU firmware or something? Japan and USA are NTSC orientated though hmmm confused:?

Looking into intl. firmware code, at least partly it does contain multilanguage texts. So it's kinda interesting if it doesn't allow switching languages after firmware update. What could prevent the language switch menu from working after an update? Hardware limitations?.. Hard to believe.

Maybe you could try updating the firmware once again, thoroughly following each step.

>Once I turned it off it was still only japanese...
As it is stated in the instruction, it should turn off by itself when the update process is finished.

BTW, there are some interesting things in the firmware, like the 384x216 300fps (hello HD1010) mentioning.

I think what evangelionpunk is trying to say is that even after updating his DMX with theVPC firmware, the menu is still in Japanese.

I owe a DMX too and it ONLY has Japanese Langauge selection.

For the VPC model, you have a list of Langauge you can choose but DMX models only has 1 selection, which is Japanese.

Correct Vacuum:!:

Even after upgrading to different firmwares the DMX still only showed japanese as the only language available. According to Sanyo tech support they stated that DMX is locked out to only Japanese. How they didnt explain just that it is.

And that's what seemed strange for me - a special lock. I guess now, it could well be there in the firmware.
