After searching the HD1000 manual and various forums, i still cant determine if its possible to turn the camera on (and shoot) WITHOUT opening the lcd monitor( and its not in the charging stand).

I was thinking that i could possibly mount the camera to a helmet and shoot whilst riding my mountain bike. This would be possible if i didnt need the screen open...

Anyone have any idea?

As far as I know the only thing you can do is turn the screen 180 degrees and fold it down.

There is a tiny magnet and hall-effect device that can be interrupted with a piece of thin flat metal. I used metal shim, some have used part of a razor blade (but IMO that is dangerous).

Here are the details and photos on how to do it. The HD1000 and HD700 have the magnet in the same location.
