Is there any hope in recovery what was on the card?

yes and no! If you havent touched the card after deletion, you can recover the files using http://www.getbackdata.net/

THey are not free but I use linux and have been able to recover lost data just fine for free. In windows, of course everything you pay for.

I recommend you download the demo and see if you can see any recoverable data off your sd card. If it is successfull, try looking for a free alternative and make sure that it can also retain certain "headers" (if it uses any) from the mp4 files when recovered.

Well I downloaded somwething called ZAR and after 15 minutes of analysis it said there were no files to be found. I of course chose the the full format option on the Sanyo XACTI menu. I think I'm screwed.

I did both and the results were the same. They found nothing. So it seems that a full format actually writes a datastream over the entire storage media.
