Not being released in North America would be unfortunate indeed, as there would be no way I'd risk purchasing from some unknown overseas ebayer. And who would service the camera here in the US if there was a problem, either upon receipt or two months down the road? Shipping the product back overseas for replacement/repair is totally unrealistic in my opinion. I do hope that Sanyo considered the C5 a success here in the US, but reading about Sanyo's camera track record, it wouldn't even surprise me if they pull out of the camera market altogether. I sure as heck hope they don't though.

I still look forward to reading a FULL review ANYWHERE.

Seeing as how the big PMA show is the end of Feb 2006 I imagine that is where we will hear Sanyo USA announce the C6. Watch for our PMA 2006 News Page as wepost iteach year. Most new digicams will be announced a month ahead of PMA at the CES 2006 show in Vegas in January though - these cameras will also be listed on our PMA 2006 News Page as usual. I will also ask Sanyo for a C6 but doubt I will get one any sooner than the U.S. retail sources.

FYI, here is our PMA 2005 Report

Interestingly Sanyo Canada announced the C40 last week and have now added it to their lineup on their web site. Sanyo US and Canadaare closely bound bySanyo North America Corp..

Yes I noticed that soon after I had purchased mine at amazon.com for $229. This is kind of surprising as well since I have always found Radioshack to be more expensive for the same item you can buy cheaper elsewhere.

I got mine at R/S for 199, hard to believe that they have the lowest price. And I returned the first one for a bad hot pixel with no questions asked, so that was good too.

Of course, the sales guy did try to sell me...
1) A new cell phone
2) Airtime for my existing cell phone
3) A pack of 10 AA batteries for $5
4) An extended service plan for the camera for $60.
5) A credit card

So that was kind of annoying...:!:

The price is really tempting ... I bought a predecesor in Japan nearly 3 years ago ... it had a bunch of bugs but did good work .. I paid like 500 USD for it ...

Now I see the c40 for 199EU ... yummy ...

One thing I could just not figure out yet. I know that some of the new xacti models do 16:9 aspect ratio ... but no mention about this camera ...anyone know if it does that ? Thanks

No, the C40 does not have a 16:9 mode. Do any of the Sanyos? Probably the HD version do.
