Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had lens filter recommendations for the HD1 - primarily for protection from any accidental dust/dirt/smudges, but possibly for other reasons as well (UV).

Also, anyone know what size ring it uses? 30mm?

Thanks!

FYI - I received the HD1....and, it doesn't have threads on the lens for a filter.

I called up Sanyo's 818 number (from the sanyo-dsc.com website) and asked - they said they didn't have any lens attachment so far, but that a wide-angle lens will be coming out relatively soon. (It's on amazon right now).

I'm going to stop by a camera shop, in case its using some standard non-threaded pop-on filter type.

If anyone finds out more information (or has any suggestions) about protecting the lens/attaching a protective filter, I'm all ears. :-)

Yeah, I don't think there is a universal thread on the HD1 - there are two lenses they'll be selling, telephoto and wide angle and that's it.

There isn't like a measurement that you can use to source other lenses.

CORRECTION: I have heard at dvinfo.net that the thread on the HD1 is, in fact, 49mm.

The reason we thought there was no standard thread, was that no threads are on the camera lens itself.

However, if you order the wide angle lens accessory from Sanyo, it's 49mm thread and attaches.

This might mean other 49mm accessories would work too.

...answering my own question, 9 months later....

FYI - there now seems to be a Sanyo product that solves this problem...

Sanyo VCP-AL49 49mm Lens Adapter for the Xacti HD1 & HD1A Camcorder

I've just been capping the HD1 - however, dust does get on it, and additionally I find that the cap pops off often when the HD1 is in my pocket, so I think I'll be getting this lens adapter (and perhaps a Tiffen filter).
