I know you said you wanted to do it without a tripod but I strongly suggest trying one of those mini tripods that are about 6 or 8 inches in length. The one I have can also be used to clamp onto a partially open car window.

Try the Gorilla Pod. It was shown at PMA in Orlando this year. Very Very Cool!

Here are some http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/...ods_com_review

What I was thinking of was something like the Ultrapod here http://www.pedcopods.com/products.htm

I use something similar that lacks the strap but is able to use the legs like a clamp. There is a knob that screws the legs together to tighten into a clamp.

My HD1 does stand upright alone.

The gorillapod before and after shots are bull!! I have a mini tripod and taking shots where I am standing, the camera has to be on a table or something. I bought a Slik tripod so I wouldn't have to look for a table to set the mini tripod on.

i got mine to stand alone as well but you need to put the monitor in the closed position. i guess i can guesstimate with it in the closed position of what angle i want to shoot.

thanks
