Hi There;

I have exactly the same problem, worked fine for a few weeks, and now its just as if the lens cap is on (it isn't) menu's appear so the screen is working but no picture.

Any ideas anyone, is there a master reset on the HD1? I also found another review on amazon from someone who has had exactly the same problem.

If you purchased it from a USA authorized reseller of Sanyo, please contact Sanyo at:

(800) 421-5013

If you purchased it in a different country or purchased an import camera, please contact the dealer from which you purchased it from.

Is Broadway Photo an "authorized" dealer? If not, could you list some internet sites that are "authorized"? It's very frustrating to try and find this camera locally. Thanks, ......Jack

Broadway photo is NOT.

Authorized US internet dealers: Amazon, B&H, Bestbuy.com, J&R, circuitcity.com, outpost.com and others

Visit http://www.sanyodigital.com/HD1/where_to_buy.htmlfor a complete list.

I have the same problem on my HD1. This happended after2 months of use.

I bought it off ebay. This is a definite defect and it is just a matter of time before al the HD1's develop this problem.

Maybe I wassold a grey market peicefrom the ebay seller, but its not a fake. SANYO has made its money from me. I bought it for $640. There has to be some way SANYO will help us in this issue.

Vergis KR,.....I agree with you completely about warranty service. Sanyo made their money when they sold the product to whoever the middleman was and in whatever country. That they do not offer the same warranty worldwide isnotfair. Consumers are not lawyers and trying to figure out who does and does not offer a warranty is a chore weshould not have. I know the old "let the buyer beware" advice and consider myself a pretty savvy buyer but I don't think I should have to be so careful when I spend my hard earnedmoney. I bought an Xacti C5 lastyear from Broadway PHoto. They said they were "Authorized dealers" but I learned later from this forum that they were not. I haven't had any problem with the camera, but that's just luck. How was I supposed to know who is and who isn't authorized? If you ask me, it's a crappy and complicated system. If I were you, I would contact Sanyo,......then I'd post your results on this forum. I'd suggest you open this discussion as a new topic addressed to Sanyo. You should get some comments and perhaps at least an explanation from the Sanyo rep that participates here.

Aack! After about 6 months of light use, my HD1 just developed the dreaded "black screen" defect. I bought it in February from Amazon, so I'm hoping Sanyo will still cover it under warranty.

Has anyone had the repair done? Do the repaired cameras have any recurring symptoms? Any advice before I call the 800 number listed in this thread?

I really like this camera, and I'm hoping that Sanyo is going to be able to addess this issue.

I heard on this forum from the Sanyo rep that they were extending the screen warranty to one year.

What a bummer this must be. I've heard of several that have had multiple failures of the screen.

I'd like to get the HD1 or HD1a but am really gunshy about the reliability. Let us know what you find out about customer service. If it's not very good, I'm personally through with Sanyo,........sadly. It's quite a concept.
