    Did you do as I suggested above? Also, in the setup menu make sure the external flash is set to "OFF". I assume you have the flash popped up.

    You have the silent mode turned on in the setup menu. Silent mode is a quick way of turning all sounds and flash off if you are in a theater or some other venue where you cannot use flash or sounds....
