Canon 24-70 L F/2.8

Hello, I do a lot of event photography; non-profits, historical.

Inexpensive telephoto for birds, fauna, etc.

I'm looking to buy a used lens for my Canon EOS for birds, fauna.

Choice seems to be narrowing down to a Tamron 200-500 or a Sigma 170-500.

Trying to keep the used cost under $500 but...

I have the Canon 70-200 F/4 and like it a lot.

Can get them used for $500-600.

I must say that F/2.8 Sigma option looks good, for a few hundred more.

I've bought lots of used gear and never had a problem. Well, once I bought a cam that had a spongy battery (would only recharge to about 15 percent) and Adorama immediately sent me a new battery.

I'm not sure why you should have to use an ISO of 800 if it's a sunny day. Try to shoot as low an ISO as possible while still maintaining the aperture and shutter speed you're interested in.

Try an oldie but goodie

I bought an old Canon EOS-1D used for $325. The camera has lightening fast autofocus and shoots 8 frames per second.

Of course, your results may vary :)

Surely casual photographers will make use of their smart phones more and more. I think the "point and shoot" market will be decimated.

My guess is there will still be a serious amateur and a pro...
