The Lexar 8x, 32mb...

A 512mb Delkin E film took 40 seconds to record a 15mb file... same as the IBM Micro Drive 340mb. The salesperson said that the larger a CF card the slower it gets. I don't believe a Lexar 8x 32mb...

An idea popped into my head. Why not try the Lexar 32mb card that came with the camera and see if it was faster. It turned out to be an 8x card. Only holds 1 - 15mb picture.

Are you ready for...

I don't have a RAW mode on the 5000, the 5700 has it.
I go from Fine, which is about a 2.0Mb .jpeg file to Hi which is the .tiff file at 14-15Mb's.

Final results

Formatting the drive reduced the time from 4:00 minutes to :40 seconds. A dramatic and refreshing difference. That is half the time of a 4x Scan Disk CF. I think I'm going to get a CF card after...

You aren't going to believe this...

ScanDisk 4x 128mb CF = 1 minute 20 seconds / 15mb
IBM Micro Drive 340mb = 4 minutes /15mb

I'm buying a CF card thank you. I don't have an explanation, but...

Consider This

As I read the various forums and comments on CF cards, it is obvious that different cards are faster in different cameras and some with greater speeds don't work as fast in some cameras. Sooooo.......
