This eagle caught a coot somewhere out of sight and flew into the bay with its prey in its talons... flew up to the top of an osprey tower to enjoy its feast.

A VERY rare visitor...

There's been a swallow-tailed gull hanging out in this area for about a week, which has birders from all over the country all a-twitter. People have been coming to see it from as far away as Illinois...

more merlins

Went back to the park again yesterday morning, to get the merlin in some better light (i.e. not backlit), and it more than cooperated... the first one will likely be in my bird calendar next year.

A merlin (4)

Got some shots of a merlin at my favorite "bird park" this afternoon... it was flying out over the bay, low over the water, catching dragonflies, and then returning to its perch to eat. No flight...
