What kind of Minolta film camera was it being used on (camera model)?

Is it an AF (Autofocus) lens designed for use on a Minolta Maxxum or Dynax camera model, or is it an MC/MD mount manual focus lens designed for earlier Minolta manual focus models?

That makes a difference, since manual focus lenses have a different lens mount compared to autofocus lenses, and can't be used on any current dSLR model without an adapter (which are available for different camera bodies now).

If it's for Minolta Autofocus mount (a.k.a., Minolta A, Maxxum, Dynax, Alpha mount) cameras, you can use it on any Sony DSLR model (A100, A200, A300, A350, A700, A900) or Konica Minolta dSLR model (Maxxum 5D, Dynax 5D, Alpha Sweet, Alpha 7D, Maxxum 7D, Dynax 7D).
