Default sigma 100-300mm f4 DG APO EX IF HSM

I saw a new sigma 100-300mm f4 APO DG IF HSM for $650. Is that a good option with a canon 60D for shooting outdoor sports. I also saw a used version lens with a sigma 1.4 X converter on ebay. Would this be a good approach for outdoor sports and wildlife shooting?
Thanks
Jerry

G'day CJ

I wouldn't expect this lens to be very different from the 70-300 f3,5 APO that has been around for some time - I have one with the Pentax
If this is so, the performance and IQ is quite okay, with the macro feature coming in at 200-300mm of zoom making it 'nice' tho very trombone-like in its extension

As to TC operations - dunno mate ... I don't have one to give you those answers

Regards, Phil

thanks OZ
does the price of $650 (from KEH outlet) sound reasonable for a new lens? I am not familiar with KEH

G'day CJ

I am in that great land downunder ... thus I do not know KEH

I deal with a large Sydney on-line store who is advertising this lens for $290Aus

I would suggest that either a) we're talking two different lenses, or b) your lens is gold plated

Regards, Phil
