I have had the Sony DSC-V1 for about a year. It always had a lag time inside when using the flash but wasn't that bad. Lately the lag time is so noticeable I am missing shots it is taking about 5-8 seconds the orange light is flashing. The pictures are also looking really dark when I upload them.

I took video yesterday inside at a pool of my daughter and they came out great. All the pictures with the flash came out dark. I had reset everything to factory settings. Now I don't know what to do. I am thinking I bought the wrong camera as I am more a point and shoot but I loved the night framing/night shots since we spend a lot of time in the summer around the camp fire.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, I thought the V-1 is more than a point and shoot camera, so maybe your camera is malfunctioned. I'm not V-1 user, though (I have the W-1)

Perhaps the battery needs replacing or isn't working properly. That sometimes can cause excessive lag time between shots.
