I am new to all this, sohave patience with me. I am looking at buying a Sony P100 or 200. Looking at the accessories, there is a VCL-DH2630 Telephoto 2.6 lens.
My question is , what is this equiv. to as 35mm. The reason I ask, is the P100 add says the normal lens is ****7.9-23.7mm f2.8-5.2 ( 35 equiv. 38 to 114). On the Kodak DX6490 10 X digital ,they say the lens in zoom mode is 380 mm equiv. 35mm. I will be taking some "distant shots of sports****grand kids****, so I intend to use a "telephoto lens" some times. Would the Sony lens mentioned above be equiv. to a 100mm, 200mm, or 300mm 35mm SLR ? I went online chat with Sony, asking this question, but the lady was as igornant as I am, so was of no help. Thanks for any info, you can supply me. |

That lens will be right around 300mm equivalent at full telephoto, which will make it about 8x optical zoom.

Cybershotnut,
Thanks a lot. I need to read some more of the post here, as I didn't know the diffference between the W & P models. For a "dummy" like me, the post pertaining to the P100 to P200 are informational, but then again, every thing I read about this is new. Keep expressing opinion's as it helps us "ignorant one's " |

It is actually the existing 3x multiplied by the 2.6x teleconversion, so your zoom range from 38 to 114 becomes about 100 to 300mm (for 35mm equivalent)
Please note that one problem with the teleconverters is that theymayintroduce vignetting, that is the corners are blocked off at the lower optical zoom ranges, up to mid-way of the zoom range |

There is also a X1.7 telephoto lens, but dont forget that both of them need the adapter as below, but I don't know if the adapter VAD-PHB (for P100 and P150) also works with the P200 !
Edit: I've seen that there is a new adapter, the Sony VAD-PHC for all the DSCP100/P150/P200 ! |

And there is also some less expensive telephoto lens (as below). I think they works on P series (not sure) but I don't know the quality :!:
