Yoursuggestion to use Program mode with a lower intensity flash will work for me and doesn't require much thinking/setup for quick shots. Slipe's comment on Jan 10th seems to back yours up - he uses the term Auto Program Mode. Your reference above to the H1 Whitepaper recommends not using Auto or the various Scene modes at all. I have never used auto mode in any camera I have owned and always use the P mode with the default settings I have inputted for those pick up and shoot moments. I have yet to use the scene modes but will no doubt give them a try. I think the white papers were written by someone who is always looking for the perfect picture while I have a bigger tolerance as to what is a good picture. No doubt the scene modes will help me when I require a quick change of settings.
