Todays cameras are better than most people need. And that is the key. What do you want to do with your camera and with your photos? Figure that out, then figure out what you need to accomplish it and then match those specs to a camera currently available. Then go buy it and go take photos. Forget about trying to 'keep up'. It's a waste of time (and money).
Upgrademania is a fools errand.
