Hi

I am torn on what camera to buy. I am basically sold on the Sony W1 over the comparable small cameras because of the large screen and the ability to use regular batteries. The only thing I don't like is that the media is the most expensive. It seems to be the most durable though.

My question is why does Sony make 2 cameras that are both 5.1mp, both do the same thing, and bothcost the same. THe only difference I see is that one has a 1" larger LCD and is a nicer shape in my opinion? Is one older?

Thanks

Before you go to far with it

I do see a few differences...

The P100 seems to be a more professional camera

Lion batteries instead of NiMh

2x more digital zoom

Double the video FPS rate?

I hate this...this is why I haven't bought camera yet

THen whats with the V1... more expensive and less features! arghhh

Hi, the V1 is an older camera but has a lot more manual features. Laser night mode , Aperture & Shutter Priority etc. This is why it is more expensive. This in my view is more of a professional camera than the P100 or W1.

Both the W1 & P100 use Sony's new image chip for fast startup etc and they both have better battery time compared to the V1. I like the batteries in the W1 as they are a lot cheaper than proprietary batteries. I was not aware of any more digital zoom or FPS in movie mode on the P100compared to theW1..

The P100 is of course the different shape but I think that it has a sport mode which the W1 doesn't have. Then again the W1 has the bigger LCD.Apart from thisI think that the P100 & W1 are pretty much the same camera.

Hope this helps a little...

The DSC-V1 is now cheaper than the W1 and a better value in my opinion.

It doesn't. The P100 and W1 have exactly the same digital zoom and movie mode.

The P100 has three mode scene modes - High-speed shutter, Fireworks, Snow.

Correct. They use the same lens and have exactly the same features apart from the above mentioned.
