I would like to take some tripod mounted portrait shots with my 717 using a flash and a remote shutter release. The only problem is that both the HVL F1000 flash unit and the remote shutter release utilize the one ACC port on the camera. Any thoughts on how I can use both this flash and a remote shutter release? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Well, since I haven't received any responses yet I guess I should assume one of three things: 1. It was a really stupid question and no one is going to legitimize it by responding; 2. It can't be done; 3.No one knows???? (can that really be true?)

I'm not sure, but I assume that because that port is taken up, you wouldn't be able to use it also for the shutter release.

The HVL-1000 has its own accessory port and you should be able to plug the remote into it. Haven't tried it but it sounds logical. Since all control comes from the camera, the remote should activate the shutter through the flash unit. Give it a try.

You can use the accessory port on the HVL-1000 to trigger the shutter release on the camera with the flash plugged into the camera's accessory port. If it is true on the F828, then it should work on the F717.
