Default DSC-f707 mpeg audio studder/repeat in Premiere 6.02

I have a Sony DSC-f707. I am just getting around to using some of the 15 Sec (sucks) MPEG movies that I have taken with the camera in Adobe Premiere 6.02. The *.mpg movies play correctly in multiple other players. The movies can be added to the timeline in Premiere with no errors. When played before or after compiling, you can hear the audio studder and repeat very short sections of the movie that it just played, about 1 seconds worth. I can not see that the video is effected, but the audio is definitely messed up. When the exported avi file is played in Win Media play it also repeats. It did this on a very full Win 2000 computer so I installed Win 2000 and Premiere from scratch onto another drive and it still did the repeating. I have the latest Premiere 6.02 patch. Has anyone seen this problem and found a solution for the problem. The Sony web site is zero for help.
