Itappears that the S2 would be your best choice for at least a couple of reasons. First it uses SD cards, which you probable already have somesince you have other cameras that use this type of memory (the H1 uses memory stick pro/duo). Second, since you don't use the LCD, which is one of the bestselling points of the H1, you'd be better off with the S2 because ithas a bigger electronic viewfinder (the H1 is almost unusable). I should also add that you are already very familiar with the operation of the Canon in terms of features and menu navigation, making it easier to use the S2. The Panasonics are out of question because as you said, they all use prop. battery.

S45 and S1 IS use 256MB CF. I would get two 1-2GB SD sticks and a storage device that could handle them.
I heard the H1 does better in low light with reduced noise than S2 IS. How is the S2 IS in low light without a flash? |

B&H cannot get the CGR-S006A/1B for the DMC-FZ30 ($559). They sell Impact battery for $30. They don't have issues with this battery. I like three sets of batteries when touring.
Still looking for more information on DSC-H1. I am surprised about the EVF. I have a friend with one and waiting for his response. |
