Assuming the manual for the HX5V, here:

is correct, it does not look like the HX5V has the "Color Mode" selections that the HX9V has.

Not all is lost though - you can change any image to B&W through post processing.

My father doesn't own a computer so he's kinda stuck... unless he travels to me every time he wants a B+W..!! Oh well......

I asked yt member, as he may look into it. Ashamed they left the feature off, but does the HX6V have manual mode
