I have been using Sony Cybershot DSC-P72 from past 2 years. Recently, I am facing a problem with the camera. The problem is that, the camera does not
record image in both the modes, still image and movie. While troubleshooting, I found that, - The camera records voice in both the modes, still image with voice enabled and movie mode. - The LCD screen is working. It also shows photos, which were taken before I started facing this problem. Also, It shows all the menu options. - The stick has enough space (That is why, I could record voice) - Flash level is set to "low". I highly appreciate any help in troubleshooting this problem. |

When you try to shoot a picture, does it create a file on the memory stick? Do the pictures come out black when you transfer them to your computer? If so, most likely the CCD went bad...

Thanks for your reply.
When I try to shoot a picture, file is created on the memory stick. If voice mode is enabled, voice file is also created. The pictures come out black when I transfer them to my computer. Voice file contains recorded voice and playable on Computer. As you suspect, if it happens to be a CCD problem, can I get it repaired? Thanks and rgds, Murthy |

If it is the CCD, it can be repared but at the cost of about half the price of the camera on average. If it is within warranty, then it should be fixed by Sony at no charge to you. Since it is 2 years though, it probably isn't.

What would be the possible reason for CCD going bad?
I have taken close to 2000 phots in past 2 years with my camera. I can say, close to 20% of them are movie snaps, eachof approximately 10 min duration. |

Have you taken many pictures with the bright sun in view of the lens? Have you left the camera in your car for a couple days where it could have been exposed to sauna like heat. There could be a problem with the circuitry inside the camera that is connected or around the ccd.

Thanks for your reply.
I looked into all the photos I have taken so far. I had taken 3 photos with bright sun in view of the lens. After these photos, I have taken close to 300 photos, which have come good. I have shared these photos at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/murthy...ydl3CBlOERQRlT Apart from photos taken in bright sun in view of the len, I had taken 4 photos of fire crackers. After these photos, I have taken close to 500 photos, which have come good. I have shared these photos at http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/murthy...S0l3CBJa4AwZfx Do you think taking such photos would have affected the CCD? I never left my camera in my car in hot environment. Seeking your comment. |
