I just recentally got the Sony W1 and while I love the huge screen and movie, the indoor shots are horrible. The last batch I took at his birthday party were so blurry I couldn't print any of them. I've tried taking them in the full auto mode and also in the manual mode with the ISO set to 400, that helps some, but mostly they just get very noisy. This last set, while indoors, it was around 4 or 5 pm and we have 2 skylights in the room, so there seemed to be plenty of light. Is this just a draw back of having a compact camera, or should I try replacing it? Any tips would be appreciated.

The W1 needs lots of light indoors. I got mine this past week, noticed problems with portraits, couldn't get them not to be 'soft' looking.

Per other user's tips, setting the camera in manual or program mode, setting the sharpness to +, the contrast to -, setting the autofocus to center only, having the flash work all the time helped, but still not to my liking. The subject has to be pretty close and even then the pictures are not sharp (see my posting under the subject of "W1, everything is 'soft'" for sample pictures.

I just bought a Canon A80 today and will be returning my W1. It's such a shame - the Sony W1 feels better, is more responsive, has that nice LCD compared to the A80, but I'm getting better pictures from my new 4MP A80!

My P100 produces about 1 in 5 very blurry unuseable photos. I've tried everything and can't explain the problem. It's probably too late to return it.

I'd caution people about keeping the W1/P100 if you're getting ot of focus photos. It probably won't get better by itself.

Here's a link to some blurry shots. Notice that Nothing is in focus in the frame.

Other than that I love the camera.(g)
