The W1 does take a nice picture. I was a little concerned after buying it I read how a lot of folks were dissatisfied with the lack of sharpness, that the images were 'soft'. And I guess there may be some circumstances, but it may also just be how it is set up. I try to use "P" mode with the automatic features but still able to change the sharpness, contrast and saturation. When in "P", I have the contrast and saturation at normal and the sharpness at +. Center focus usually works best, too.
One other thing, how is your computer monitor calibrated. Might be a good thing to check.

to be honest, at 50 bucks less, I don't see many reasons to choose W5 over P100. I mean, if the lens and the CCD are the same, and the features are basically the same too, I don't see how a firmware update would be worth the 50 bucks.
besides, if I thought W5, I might as well go for the p150, at and extra 20 bucks or so...

My wifes humble opinion: get the W5 with the bigger LCD and a more "camera" look to it.
