Hi, I'm currently the owner of a DSC-U30 and am looking to replace it. This isn't my serious camera (the H1 will be just after christmas). It's the camera that i use for nights out - easily pocketable, and quick to turn on. I want to stick with sony as i've got a bit of an investment in them (my phone is sony ericsson, my camcorder is a TRV-33, and my parents camera is an L1 (no idea what that's like in use as they've not opened it yet). Thanks in advance guys.

For a great pocket camera, I would recommend looking into the P200. If you're not looking to spend that much, look at the S40.

How pocketable is the p200 ?. I'm looking for something i could easily take into a nightclub in my trouser pocket! I've been been looking at them today in stores but can't get an accurate estimate of size - and one week before christmas isn't a time to be leisurely shopping for cameras !Price isn't really an issue for me (it should be , but for the purposes of consumer electonics it never is )

In my opinion, you'll be extremely happy with the P200 for pictures in clubs and places like that. I carry a P100 with me to places like that and have always been impressed with the photos. Compared the the U30, the P200 is almost the same size, but slightly longer, easily pocketable. It will be a major upgrade from the U30!

Keep your U-30.
I have both U-30 and new N-1 andmost times U-30 takes better pics. ( Softer color and balanced contrast in shadow) |

Take a look at the DSC W5, to me its as small as the 200 and is easier to handle. It takes great pictures , has better flash, and uses AA batteries. You can get great buys on these right now.
