Just wondering if anyone knew when the first proper reviews of the newly announced Sony H7 and H9 will be available.

I'm very tempted with the spec of the cameras, but am loathe to buy without finding out what reviewers think of them beforehand.

They are due to hit the shelves in about a month and I have a bonus in my March pay packet.....

Also is it worth spending THAT much extra for the H9 just for the bendy screen and nightshot capacity - or are there any other extra features I've missed out on?

Cheers

If it has nightframing and nightshot.....YES.

just previews

It seems to be some improvement over the H2/H5

Here is another hands-on of real depth.

This preview is what gave me the 'courage' to order the H-9 before any formal reviews, etc.:

Look at the detail of the monkey hair.

wow they got review on preproduction model already? i've to agree with some of the dislikes:

-Not a sexy camera
-Menus within menus within menus

and the H9'snew control ring at the back is to replace H2/H9's 'jog dial that is below the shutter release button? so our thumb gonna be busy.

It still looks like the right camera for me at this moment.

Downloaded the H7 manual to check the usb speed as it only showed it was usb 2.0.

Thankfully the manual makes clear its actually usb 2.0 hispeed capable.

Waiting impatiently for more info on H9!

Goofas said: "If it has nightframing and nightshot.....YES." I have them on my V1 and I use both a lot.. H9 info says it has only a nightshot.. a pity.. :)

I love this camera already! It is so much like my V1, but with a stronger zoom and more megapixels, and posibility to shoot in low light, and fast moving subjects.. :) this is exactly what I need.. :)

And the announced price is very nice.. :)

Only one thing disappoints me - I can't find any info about when they are going to sell it in Europe.. :? Or I have to ask a help from my friends in USA.. Good to have some there.. :)

Yeah I can't wait for this to come out either I am sure someone is gonna want to sell their H2 or H5 to get it.

The optics seems better than the other GigaZoom like Olympus Sp-550!
some chromatic abberration, but all superzoom has it!!!

Hi there!
I've just got my H9 and I've started playing with it.
First impressions
Pros
-awsome technology, bunch of gadgets bundled in a relatively small camera.
- good quality pictures(vivid colors,sharp)
-I love the HD displaying, can't stop watching pictures on my TV.
-the camera's LCD display is a state of the art,it can't be compared with my laptop's monitor(HP NX6110).

Cons
-purple fringing
- poor ergonomics(need delicate fingers for navigating using the arrows.
I've posted few samples on "Flickr" with few comments for every picture:http://www.flickr.com/photos/silviu_d/?saved=1

I bought my H9 a week ago here in Croatia, so I cannot believe it is not sold in Italy... :?

If you feel like driving 500km you can get it here... it's not a greatest of ideas, but sure beats getting one from the Strates..

DigitalGal May 8, 2007 2:59 AM

muddyfox :)

How much did you pay for your cam? Do you have any pics online yet?

I believe they start to sell it also in Italy.. but a price is very high, I think.. in EUR the same figure as in USD..

muddyfox May 10, 2007 6:08 AM

No online pics yet, but you get exactly what you see on Nick's photos :|

As for the prices over here, H9 sells for about 450 EUR retail. Since we're not in the EU, I believe you could also get a tax refund

DigitalGal May 11, 2007 12:16 PM

:) maybe I ll get it in Latvia.. going for holiday in middle June.. but I still have another priorities.. :(

Thanks for sharing!

PS. I am sure about the quality of photos with H9.. as I can see it is the only and proper update from my V1.. that is stuffed with pro options.. ;)

Cyberf828 May 11, 2007 12:45 PM

Is this how much they are going for over seas?

450 Euros = 608.62500 U.S. dollars is this right? I don't know if my converter is right.

DigitalGal May 11, 2007 1:40 PM

Exactly! No mistakes.. :)and the same happens to all the accessories.. the same figure as in USD, but in EUR.. added value.. :D

Cyberf828 May 11, 2007 2:11 PM

How is the market for reselling cameras over there? Most of the time around here I find the cameras 1/2 the price 3 to 4 months after theirrelease. Know I sit and wait for a H9.

muddyfox May 14, 2007 1:04 AM

No such luck over here. New technology usually keeps its' price tag at least a year or unless something "better" comes along, whichever comes first.

Wow... that is rough, I picked up a H5 and a 2 gig card for $250. U.S

Wirraway May 15, 2007 6:29 AM

Wow Cyberf828, $250 for an H5 with a2 gig card is afantastic deal, for all the hype being applied to the H9your H5 will more than match it for image quality and that is the point I look for when viewing images. For the difference in yourpriceagainst a new H9 will buy you the Sony 1.7 teleconverter (+700mm focal length) as well as the macro, smart buying indeed. I have 3 Sony's F707, H5 and the W100 as a carry everywhere camera, this W100 is a great little cam and am looking forward to the reviews on the 12 megapixel W200 which addsimage stabilisation as well asbracketing which is not on theW100, if this new camera has as good ISO performance as the W100 will give it serious comsideration.

Cyberf828 May 15, 2007 7:01 AM

So far the H5 has been taking great photos realy happy now my backup will be the F828 :-)
