In circumstances like that, I totally agree that a pocket camera comes in handy but you can sort of plan for those situations in advance.

Great shots, Wirraway. I particularly like the first one with all the texture, shapes and contrast. The F707 (as the R1), has excellent DR.

Thanks for the wonderful shots. I especially like #2 the night shot with the moon nicely overhead. Have a great day. Sarah Joyce |

Good shots, Cyber. Sony did well with the 707, 828 and R1 cameras. Then, it seems like it was adownhill from there. Even though some of the H models are pretty decent, they are far from producing the IQ that these three models do.
As a suggestion, I'd try to straighten the horizon a bit on the second shot. It's a bit too crooked. |

Nicely done CyberF828.
Tullio, just received my DSC-W300, just about to try it out, the 1st suprise I got was finding out it is stillmade in Japan as the rest of the Wxxx seriesare made in China. the camera itselfhas a very nice build with its titanium finish and is an improvement on the wifes W100. :-) |

Congrats on your new camera, Wirraway. Yes, it is indeed surprising that the camera is made in Japan. I believe Canon is one of the very few companies that still makes their products (non-top of the line)in Japan. My Sony A300 is also made in Japan but the Olys are all made in China (although I'm not sure about the E3, which is their top of the line). In any case, I'm looking forward to see some of the images from the W300. Keep us posted, will you:!:
