The focus seems to go in and out when using my Sony DSC-W! in 640 fine movie mode. Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate this problem?

Nope. It has to get blurry like that for a second to set the proper focus. Comfort yourself with the thought that, really, a couple hundredths of a second blurryness is better that your whole movie being blurry because the focus is set at the start.

The focus continues to hunt or go in and out the entire time I am filming the movie.

Not exactly related to the, "What Camera Should I Buy" forum...what situation are you shooting in? If it's low light, every digicam and camcorder in the world (with auto focus) will have that situation in low light, even if the scene is still with the camera on a tripod...one tv show tried to convince the viewing audience that it was a ghost interrupting the camera's function becuase they were shooting in a haunted house, but they failed to read the manual which explains that will happen and to turn off the AF.

I am shooting outdoor football games. Light is good.

I saw a comment in this bbthat suggested that many owners of the W1 have experienced this problem.

What forum should I be posting in?

Some models do not adjust focus when recording movies. I don't know if this is the case with the DSC-W1 or not.

I'll move the post to the Sony Forum, where you may get better informed responses.

Have a look at this thread --> http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=28

But yeah basically just set the focus manually.

I will try the center focus or manual focus setting!

You'll get best results just leavingthe movie modeon infinity autofocus all the time.
