I am looking for a compact camera with at least 4mp and a range of manual controls. The new W1 seems perfect, but does anyone know when it will be released in the UK, and where I can buy it from? Also, do you think it will be worth the wait?

It should be in the beginning of May. I had V1 and it was super. If only it would have been smaller and a bit more wideangle!

I just did a google.co.uk search on "Sony DSC-W1" and came up with a price of £330 (no ETA though) - see: http://www.iiid.co.uk/auto/sn95.HTM Also saw a price of £360/370 from (I think) "Cheapest Electrical". member/non-member I'll be interested to see some actual reviews, and some realistic street prices, when they really do begin to appear. (I think June is more realistic than May - just my guess). If it were nearer £300 than £400, it should be a winner, but I'm not sure if it will be. If it's as good as the V1, it should be worth the wait, but I'm worried about the compromises they may have had to make (lack of remote being the one that disappoints me already). |

p.s. Sometimes you can pre-order items in Amazon,
so just for fun I searched on "Sony DSC-W1" in amazon.co.uk. I didn't find a W1, but did find the V1 at £309.99 (shipped free in 24 hours), which is quite a bit less than I paid last year. So, if you can't wait... |

Just noticed this on the UK Sony Style site, posted on 19th April:
DSCW1 A unique combination of leading edge Sony technology and traditional camera design. Available mid May 04 DSCW12 Same as DSCW1 with Special Edition black body, black leather case and 4 x NiMH batteries supplied. Available mid June 04 No prices given, but I see they have the V1 at £399, and the T1 at £499 (no mention of the T11). (of course you can find them much cheaper). http://products.sony.co.uk/thumbnails.asp?id=8_60_ |

Slower lens, no iso 800, only a few manual controls and didn't it lack the nice laser af assist aswell? So it's not just a small V1

In the U.S., the P93 is listed at $349.99, and the W1 has yet to have a price, although I've heard it will be $399.99. Interestingly, the only feature/spec differences I can find, and they may be major, is the size of the screen (2.5" on the W1), the German lens, and the overall appearance. Other than those, they're almost identical when you compare specs. Very anxious for reviews.
