Sarah Joyce, (or anyone who can help!!)
I got my Sony HX1 on Thursday. I have been trying it out, and I know Sarah you said to be patient, so am trying to be. It seems I have trouble with actual focus, especially inside. I will post some pics and welcome comments, please tell me what I should do. Actually I have deleted most of the ones that are out of focus, should have left them on there I guess. But I will post the rest. Suzie |

I thought maybe I should clarify what types of pictures I usually take.
1. Inside/outside shots of 4 mos granddaughter. I always get redeye, hate to correct that on computer. I must say with the Olympus 450 that I tried out for a couple weeks did not show any redeye. 2. Outside pics of dogs, flowers, (landscapes if on vacation) 3. Macro pics of flowers Maybe I am not doing my settings correct, but I have found that I delete probably 8 out of 10 pics that I have taken so far. Thanks for all your help- Suzie |

Mrs Suzie my apology for the delay in replying.
While you are shooting its preferable if you set the dial to Aperture/ Shutter priority. Then set your settings to this: White Balance: Auto or Fluorescent Light 2 Dro: Plus (while shooting outside with low ISO), Standard (When you need to shoot with high ISO, like 1600/3200) Color Mode: Vivid Color Saturation: Plus Contrast: Plus Sharpness: Plus SteadyShot: Shooting(for saving battery life) Looking at your flower pic, it seems like the Camera is getting confused on what to focus on. to prevent this set focus to: flexible Spot AF For macro Shots don't zoom in rather change your position to minimize the distance between you and the object and always turn on macro option for close up photos. For landscape use scene selection or aperture priority(depth of field). With aperture value set to 2.8 the camera will focus on the target and everything behind it will be blurred. Set it to 8.0 if you want the whole frame to be sharp. For taking portrait picture; use aperture priority with F value set to 2.8; if the shutter speed is too slow, increase ISO (max 400, beyond that the picture will become noisy). if it still doesn't work for you switch to Anti-Motion Blur or Twilight. if its still too dark use Sync Flash. If you get too confused while shooting you can always shift to EASY MODE/iAuto (Trust me they are good in some situations.) These are the things that works well for me, I'm still a novice so if there is any mistakes don't take it too seriously. Suzie-
Rashid has provided some excellent advice. The nub of the problem is where you are allowing the HX-1 to focus. I actually prefer spot focus as it allows me to select the exact point in the photo where I want the camera to focus. Try spot focus and i think that should take care of things. As always, I will check back to see if that solves the problem for you. Sarah Joyce |

Hi
Here is an example of what the old H-2 can do in existing light without flash. Sarah Joyce |
