DonalDuc,
I am very impressed by your indoor and outdoor shots - I am a newbie to this forum and had just purchased a Hx5V ( I like 10x zoom) and I had lots to learn to take still photography even though I am used to taking videos the last 6 years. Hope you don't mind me my asking some beginner questions:- 1) Do you set to "food" setting for your fabulous food shots? 2) If I like to share pictures in this post after I am up to speed in the future, how do I post the pictures... Thanks... and I will sign in this thread often to enjoy your creations Ric |

For uploading of resized photos (~ 800x450) I use since years this server www.666k.com, max. size 666kB (that is enough), it's free and without advertising. But there are other servers too where you can upload pictures. Then place the link with into forum. That's all. I think HX5 is a very similar camera to TX7 (I do not need 10x zoom, have Canon SX1 with 20x zoom). Touch display of TX7 has advantages, but also disadvantages. It is no "must", but TX7 is SMALL, that's important. IQ of both cameras is equal - same sensor. Replacement Battery for HX5 is cheaper, I'm waiting for 3rd party battery for TX7 (it's new) ![]() |

Thanks DonalDuc for your advice. I agree that Tx-7 has ultimate portability. Tx-7 great shots were what directed my attention to Sony's new class of cameras in the first place. If my other old camera has a bigger zoom, I would have gone for Tx-7.. but my old Sony cam only has 3x zoom, hence, I selected Hx5v for the 10x zoom.
When I compare sample shots taken between Hx5v and Tx-7, you are right, they are almost similar but it seems to me that Tx-7 has a slight advantage and better looking shots in terms of brilliance...I think this is due to the photographer.... another beginner question.... for your Tx-7, for your "P" selection, what other further settings under "P" would be good for "landscape" shots and "food" shots ie bracket settings, 0EV, ISO, White Balance. Ric-
Scene Modes are convenience modes. If you really want to learn photography, take your time and learn to set your camera as needed for any given situation. You can begin with scene modes, but try to learn and gain competence doing it yourself. Why not join us in the HX5 "first impressions" thread as well. Sarah Joyce |
