I compared the NR to that of the panasonic LX3. It isn't really a cam of the same class, but it does show the very aggressive NR applied in the HX5: These are 1:1 1024x768 crops of ISO400 images at manual exposure and WB, LX3 with standard NR. Using lower iso settings on the hx5 doesn't help much, noise reduction remains an issue first HX5, then LX3: Last edited by greenbaron; Mar 24, 2010 at 7:32 AM. |

I uploaded a full iso comparison to my picasa web album, including an in-camera HDR sample
Also some panasonic LX3 high iso samples for comparison http://picasaweb.google.com/tvpopta/...eat=directlink |

Some pictures from my hometown, all handheld
in camera HDR used here and there; all pics are resized/sharpened only except for one 3:2 crop |

Some twillight shots; used the high speed burst on the last two, to increase the chance of a 'steady moment'; worked well. Again, resized/sharpened only

Good shots, GreenBaron-
What WB are you using on your night shots? Thanks in advance. Sarah Joyce |

Thank you Sarah,
The WB was on auto all the time; When nightfall started, I set the cam to full iAuto mode, to see if it would make a difference to the exposure settings; I'm not sure if the auto WB was intelligently adapted because of that; I'm pretty content with the performance though ![]() |

I see the extreme NR both in your crop and in the review I read. The real-world shots look great though - at least at this size.

Some images from my 'other hometown', Amsterdam airport Schiphol.
After the turbulent first decade of this century, it has become increasingly difficult to bring a camera to work; But the HX5 seems small enough to look 'harmless' to the security staff ![]() These pictures were taken from the official panorama deck after work. |

That is a great series of photos, GreenBaron-
Partly because I like airplane. I spent 32 years flying for TWA and retired as a 747 Captain and Line Check Pilot. It looks like the Auto WB handled the photos quite well. The HX-5 is shaping up to be a very competent camera. Sarah Joyce |
