Is the read/write time really as long as some reivews say, and what is the delay between shots?
Also how many pictures will the buffer store before needing to write to disk? Do the mini cds require the sony adaptor or will they work w/o? Any bad experiences with the cd mechanism or is it pretty robust? |

j lange . . .
I've had my Sony Mavica CD400 for only a short time, but I can at least help a little bit. As far as the read-write times go, I don't find them too much of a problem (but I haven't put that many shots on the disc. either). I do hear that things can start getting fairly sluggish when the disc starts getting full. I suggest you download your shots to your computer before the disc gets that full, then "clear" the disc by re-initializing it (if the disc's a CD-RW) and continue shooting. ('Kind of like cleaning up your hard drive to give your computer back a little bit of its former pep.) The buffer doesn't need to store any images (if you're going with CD-RW). After each shot, the camera will ask you to confirm whether you want to Record (write) to the disc -- or Delete the image. You select the desired setting and the camera does the rest. It's a reasonably quick process. Once the process is com- plete, you just on shooting. I have a Mac G4TiPowerBook running Jaguar (OS 10.2) so I just view and "process" my shots with the CD400 plugged to the laptop via USB.. I don't foresee using the 3" disc (with its adaptor) in future. As stated earlier, it's early in the game for me, but the camera seems to be solid as a rock, and if given respect, should last a long time. Probably, technology will change many times before your CD400 bites the dust. Hope this helps. <Posted: Thu Jan 30, 2003 2:47 pm Post subject: Sony Mavica <CD400 questions <------------------------------------------------------------------------ <Is the read/write time really as long as some reivews say, and <what is the delay between shots? < <Also how many pictures will the buffer store before needing to <write to disk? < <Do the mini cds require the sony adaptor, or will they work w/o? < <Any bad experiences with the cd mechanism, or is it pretty robust? |
