I am not crazy about the Sony H-50's custom WB, but here is one at ISO 800 from 150 feet away. Now that is a real grab shot! Is anyone considering the new Sony HX-1 camera??

Ian-
Here in the USA www.sonystyle.com is beginning to measurably drop the price on the Sony W-300. Could that be an indication that a replacement to the W-300 is near at hand? Perhaps a W-320 or something of that sort. If that is so, then the price on the W-300 will fall nicely. I would very much appreciate that little event. Sarah Joyce |

Hi Sarah
Yes I think the replacement for the DSC-W300 is due, rumours elsewhere are saying it will drop the optical viewfinder and uses a smaller sensor, hope these rumours are not true. Camera: Sony DSC-W300 ISO 800 |

Yes, it was an excellent price on the Sony H-50. I purchased it from a friend who had caught the DSLR bug and who wanted to unload the H-50 in a hurry for cash. I was both lucky and fortunate.

Ian-
What a nice H-5 photo! I have not had my H-5 out of the drawer for a good long while. I agree with you that it would be a shame if Sony deleted the viewfinder and used a smaller imager o the W-300. It would defeat what the W-300 was designed to do. Sarah Joyce |

Thanks for your post, yes if the W300 replacement sensor is smaller and no optical viewfinder I will leave well alone, but as I said it is rumoured only so we will have to wait and see, I must get out and try ISO 400 with appropriate minus exposure compensation for this night street photography here in Cebu City, wish you well with your cruising life. Well with the just announced Sony WX1, the rumour about smaller sensor and loss of viewfinder as proved correct if this is the replacement for the W300 it is a shame, as well the WX1 has lost it's manual and the longest shutter speed is 3 sec against 30 sec for the W300. If Sony put the larger 1/1,7 CMOS sensor with a W300 replacement they would just about clean the market up for compacts. IMO, OVF's are almost unusable, despite the camera. They usually are not aligned with the lens so what you see is NOT what you get. It may help with the framing a little bit in some extreme conditions but overall, they do more harm than good. I say that because people end up with spoiled images caused by this offset. The Panasonic ZS3 has an very high def LCD and if Sony implements a similar LCD on the new models, there will be no need for any type of viewfinder.
