trouble shooting micros
Greetings all,
I have a SonyDSC f707 and I am having a terrible time shooting micros. Question, can you use the telephoto lens while shooting micros? When I'm at wide angle, no problem, but when i use the telephoto I can not focus on the subject. Please advise.

Are you use'n a tripod? Do you put the camera in macro mode? I don't have a tripod yet but, my pics haven't turned out that bad IMO. Here is a pic of a Blenny I took in my salt water reef tank. Not bad for no tripod and I didn't tweak any of the settings.

Another of him. Not quite as good because it was resized but, you get the picture.

Macro with F707
Macro is not easy. Wide angle on a well light static object like a coin, no problem but to do a flower you need to isolate it from the background. This means wide aperture with minimim depth of field. The advantage is you get higher shutter speed. On telephoto the minimum focus distance is 0.90 metres. Use a tripod, focus carefully using manual or auto with AE lock and if possible use the timer to prevent shake.
For moving objects like the fish, focus on a small area, be patient and wait for the object to come into frame. Lots of results will be rubbish but who cares, the`re free and soon you`ll get the shot you wanted and it all becomes worthwhile.
Good luck

Try a 58 mm screw-on closeup lens (around $15) rather than zooming in. Set the camera in macro mode and focus manually.
