I was here before I went on a shopping trip to Maine. (I'm in NB, Canada) I wasn't a member then. I found this site via google search. I to was thinking about getting a Sony-DSC-H50. What reviews I read, seemed to be mixed and the camera (according to them) was just average. Anyway, I was happy with the pictures and info I found here. Jack55 (others also) you have some great pics here that really show what the camera can do. I was impressed and I bought the above mentioned camera. Thanks so much for all the great info and pics you folks added. I'm pleased with the camera and I'm new to the world of photography and fancy digital cameras. I was thinking about jumping into dslr, but I came back to earth and realized all that would be over my head and far to expensive for me. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to technical stuff. I can read the manuals and still end going .. huh?
I've had a little time to take some pictures and read though the book and I'm still reading the .pdf hand book. I'll be hanging out here and I hope you people will add all your the tips and tricks you can. I for one will be happy to read and learn. ![]() Thank You all for helping make my decision. (The Sony-DSC-H50) ![]() Picture is Head Harbor Lighthouse .. around 60% zoom. Full zoom brought it in to close. Cig... |

Thanks Jack!
I wondering if having a spot here for pics that folks provide info of how / what they did when they took a certain picture. What mode and / or settings used etc. I mean for the Sony-H50. Not that it is always easy to remember. ![]() Or maybe people could just provide details here. What do you folks think? Anyway, I haven't played with the night modes much at all. Would be interesting to see some pics from folks who have. I'm thinking about getting a tripod. Any ideas on a nice adjustable one that doesn't cost an arm and leg? I've also been thinking about getting a second battery to take with me places. Nothing like getting someplace to take pictures and remembering you forgot to charge the battery before leaving. I looked at one and I think it was like $60+ .. ouch! I read the book and then I get someplace and forget what I read. Ha! My memory isn't what it used to. I'm new to all this fancy digital camera stuff. I think I need the book - The Sony DSC H50 Book for Dummies! ![]() Oh Well .. Back to the Hand Book. Pic .. Wild Rose Hips. (Think that is what they are called?) Up close. (I think this was in Auto?) I got two things short and one is my memory .. Cig... |

I'd just go to the local Wal Mart, Target and pick one that you like. They make so many nowdays. I have a mid-range SLIK tripod.
A second batter is a MUST as you will run out at the worst time, (murphy's law). You can't remember to have it charged at all times. I have two for my Sony and three for my Olympus E-510. Why three? That way I have one in the camera, one in the bag and one charging at all times. On many of my shots in the previous 7 pages, I have listed the way I shot such as F stop, ISO etc. For outdoors I usually set the camera on vivid with 1/3 underexposed. |

OK and Thanks! .. Jack
Next time I'm near a Walmart I'll check them out. meaning Tripods. Later on I'll get a another battery. I like the idea of having three also. Your doing really great with your camera and your photos are beautiful. The watch, the pink rose, others flowers and planes .. etc. Keep them coming. I'll go back through the pages and note those settings you've provided. Once I get it all figured out, I'll try and do the same. Thanks again! Later .. Ciggie -- |
